EpicVerse RPG vs D&D 5e: AI-Driven Campaign Test Results

At Geeky Pat Games, we have a lot of love for Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition. It’s a fantastic game, a cornerstone of tabletop roleplaying, and for many players it was their first adventure into the hobby. It’s the industry leader for a reason. But we wanted to see how our own EpicVerse RPG would perform if it went head-to-head with the best in the market.
To keep things fair, we designed a unique playtest. We used AI to simulate both the Game Master and the players, running the exact same 12-session high fantasy campaign The Heart of Aetherion twice: once in D&D 5e, and once in EpicVerse RPG. This setup meant the same world, the same encounters, and even the same dice rolls were used for both systems, allowing us to compare them on an even playing field.
During each run, we tracked player engagement, mechanical satisfaction, narrative freedom, pacing and progression, and GM flexibility. The results surprised us in a good way. EpicVerse RPG held its own against D&D 5e in every category, and in some areas, such as narrative flexibility and creative problem-solving, it even pulled ahead. The quick-start packages gave EpicVerse the same jump-in-and-play accessibility as 5e, while the freeform builds let experienced players craft exactly the characters they imagined without breaking game balance. When we simulated mixed tables some players using packages, others going fully custom engagement and creativity hit their highest scores.
This wasn’t about trying to “beat” D&D 5e. We respect that game immensely for everything it’s done for the tabletop RPG community. Our goal was to prove that EpicVerse RPG can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the best in the industry while offering unique strengths: complete genre flexibility, a balanced point-buy system, and integrated narrative mechanics that let players solve problems in ways the rules fully support.
Whether you’re a newcomer to roleplaying or a veteran gamer looking for more creative freedom, EpicVerse RPG delivers engaging, balanced, and memorable adventures in any setting you can imagine. After this test, we’re more confident than ever that EpicVerse can take its place among the top-tier systems in the hobby.
